Church again! Twice in one week. Beware, there could be snowstorms later today. G3 wanted to go and E promised us a wake up call, but my bladder beat him to it. En route to the bathroom, I nudged G3 awake and asked if he still wanted to go. He did.
After breakfast, the scouts headed to Sandy Beach to play on the inflatables in the pond. I followed to watch and take pictures, but again I couldn’t get close enough to get a good picture. Splashing around in the water was followed by G3 heading out on the sail boat. There was wind today—a slight wind—so they were able to get the boat to move more easily. I watched for a bit and then set off on a hike.
Following the yellow trail, I walked around the pond. It was a well marked, fairly easy hike. The yellow fed into the white which took me around Hidden Lake. Some of the views were pretty, but it was cloudy which almost always deters from the beauty. I was out for almost two hours and by the time I got to the dining hall for lunch, I was soaked through with sweat, but I made it in time to eat with the troop.
Since I was so hot, I would have loved to jump in the lake, but all the rules prevented it. Therefore, I had to settle for a shower instead. Clean and cooler, I sat in my hammock and read. I was alone in the campsite—just me and a book—and it was blissful.
At three o’clock, I met up with S, one of the dads in the troop. His son is also taking Horsemanship and he was driving over to take pictures of his son on the horses. Knowing I don’t have a car, he invited me along. We got there and the sky was blue. Ten minutes later, dark clouds rolled in and the sky opened up. It poured heavily for thirty seconds. It was enough to drive everyone into the stables. G3 rode the horses—only walking and trotting in a circle—inside. I snapped a few pictures. And then, because the sky cleared, everyone else got a chance to ride outside. Oh well, at least he got on the horse.

After three days of cloudy skies, the sunset tonight was gorgeous. It set over the lake, tinting the sky and water a reddish gold. The scouts are having a campfire. It’s loud and crowded, so I snuck away to sit down by the water to read with a a flashlight. I can still hear the scouts—they are so damn loud—but at least I ignore them.
G3 came down to the water after the campfire for our nightly chat. There were stars in the sky. He talked a bit about next year, conflicted as always as to what activities he will choose. He talked too about his sailing excursion and how good it was that they finally had wind today. He also talked about the horses. I’m glad he got to do that merit badge, especially since there aren’t a great deal of opportunities for it.
