Tutoring

 

I am a certified elementary teacher with experience teaching internationally and in three states. This has given me a great deal of experience with various methods to teach reading.  Not all children learn the same way and my experiences allow me to pull from these different techniques to help young readers who are struggling.  While I am not a special education teacher, I am autistic and have several learning disabilities. This makes me extremely sensitive to students on the spectrum or who experience difficulties because their brains work differently. When I work with students, I work out of the box to ensure that each child gets specialized attention that incorporates their personal needs.

I am also a certified English and history teacher with a great deal of writing experience.  I tutor students of all ages who need one-on-one help writing research or analytical papers for both English and history classes. Again my neurodivergence enables me to better help students who are on the spectrum or have ADHD.

Writing Workshops

 

I run writing workshops–for all ages–on various topics, especially those grounded in non-fiction/memoir writing. In these workshops, writers develop their ability to explore and process their feelings on paper to make their personal narratives more dynamic. Some themes covered in these workshops are grief, depression, and coming out. In fiction writing, my workshops focus on character development, opening scenes, descriptive language, and ways to best engage a reader. I help writers at different levels develop their confidence and improve their technique.
