Our hotel is quite cute. It has a southwestern facade and isn’t as run down as many of the hotels we’ve stayed at. We started our day with breakfast in the hotel and then got in the car to take our Breaking Bad tour. G3 had his list of addresses and plugged them into the GPS one at a time.
When we started the tour, before each stop, I asked G3 where we were going and its significance in Breaking Bad. If I asked a follow up question, he snapped, “Watch the show.” I got tired of trying to engage him in a conversation about his interest and getting nothing but a short tempered response,
so I gave up. I did, however, enjoy his excitement which never wavered. He had fun getting out of the car and taking pictures at each stop. He even insisted on having his picture taken in front of several locations. That alone speaks volumes about his enthusiasm since he usually grumbles
when we want to take his picture. If people were outside, or too close to a particular location, Kati slowly rolled past while G3 snapped a picture through the open window.
For lunch, G3 wanted to go to Twisters, which in Breaking Bad is Los Pollos Hermanos. He ordered the chicken sandwich that he said Walter White often ate. Kati and shared chips and queso.
Kati ran out of clean sports bras. Due to the heat, she changed more frequently than she accounted for. This left her with two options, since she wasn’t about to where her last clean one for two plus weeks. 1–Do laundry. 2–Buy new sports bras. But who wants to bother with laundry while on the road. Therefore, we stopped at Costco. Of course, while we were there, we had to check out the free samples. I can’t say there was anything I really liked, but they certainly had more free sample stations than they ever have in New Jersey.
We spent the entire day driving around the city, but it made G3 extremely happy. He said he enjoyed the Breaking Bad experience more than he enjoyed Philmont. I wanted to cry. This Breaking Bad detour was a teeny tiny fraction of the cost of Philmont. Oh well. I’m still glad I got to experience Philmont with G3. Our last stop of the day was at the Breaking Bad museum and gift shop which is in the Old
Town Plaza. It was small, but G3 was in his glory. He looked at all the souvenirs and I bought him the Los Pollos Hermanos tee shirt he liked. He went into the museum and took advantage of all the photo ops. Kati went into just to take his picture, while I wandered around the plaza, stretching my legs a bit after sitting in the car all day.

This evening, we went to the movies to see The Fantastic Four. G3 really liked it. I did not. It was the same old story line. Alien tries to destroy earth and superheroes save the day. I really tried to engage with the movie, but I was bored.Still, I’m glad I got to see it with G3 because he had been looking forward to it for months.
For dinner, G3 insisted on going to the Dog House and having a hot dog. From what I understand, it was not in Breaking Bad, but it is in Better Call Saul, which is a Breaking Bad spinoff. The portions were small for the price and both Kati and G3 were disappointed in the food. I didn’t eat because there was nothing on the menu I could eat.
